Ellen DeGeneres is a stand-up comedian, television host and actress, most famous for her Emmy-winning talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show. After dropping out of college after just one semester, Ellen decided to pursue a career as a stand-up comic. Ellen got her first big break in 1994 when she bagged the lead role in the sitcom These Friends of Mine, later renamed, Ellen. In 1997 she made TV history when both she and her character came out as lesbian. The following season the show was cancelled, forcing Ellen to return to the stand-up circuit before she launched The Ellen Show in 2001. Ellen's greatest success has been The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which was launched in September 2003 and has won 25 Emmy awards. Alongside her talk show, the star has been involved with a number of other successful endeavours, including hosting both the Academy Awards and the Primetime Emmys, as well as appearing as a judge on American Idol. Since 2004 she has been in a relationship with Portia de Rossi, and the couple married in California in August 2008.
Jessica Alba, born in California, is an American actress of Danish, French-Canadian and Mexican descent. She began her movie and television career, aged just 13 years old, appearing in Camp Nowhere and The Secret World Of Alex Mack in 1994. She made guest appearances in several TV shows and adverts before she rose to greater fame, starring alongside Drew Barrymore in high school rom-com Never Been Kissed (1999). However, Alba's real break came when she was hand-picked by James Cameron to play genetically engineered super-soldier Max Guevara in the FX sci-fi series Dark Angel (2000). The series ran for two seasons and was well-received, earning Alba a Golden Globe nomination for her role, and winning her a Teen Choice award and a Saturn award. Her most famous part to date is that of Bella Swan in Twilight, a role which she landed after an informal screen test that "captivated" director Catherine Hardwicke.
